A Study of Positional Truths

Let us now return to our study of the results of Justification. We have studied four of them which are: Peace With God, Access To God, Rest In Trouble Before God, and Experiencing The Love Of God.  The fifth result of being justified and declared righteous is the we are Safe From The Wrath of God.

Romans 5:9 says, “Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.” If the first four results were not enough, Paul labels these as “Much more...” results.  The words ‘much’ and ‘more’ carry the idea of plenteous, to far surpass (much) and a superlative of the greatest degree of better. (more) It seems like the further God goes in the results of justification He continues to ravish us with benefits. This result is not yet future but now.  This safety in the midst of wrath is all through Him based on the blood He shed to redeem His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21)

In Matthew 3:7 and Luke 3:7, John the Baptist asked the religious crowd at his baptismal services a question. Who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? The wrath is the eternal wrath of damn in the lake of fire. I bless the day the Holy Ghost hedged my way with thorns, impeded my forward progress, and made me turn back from the wrath to come. I thank the Holy Ghost not only for being the red light but giving me the eyes to see the red light and the will to turn from the road to wrath.

I am so thankful for the work of the Holy Spirit in turning me from the wrath to come because of what Paul said in Ephesians 2:3.  The text tells us that at birth I was “ nature the children of wrath.”  I was courting the wrath of God when I was born and had the nature that could only practice disobedience. (Ephesians 5:3-6) God came and set me free from the wrath to come by His blood.

In Revelation 6:16-17, John says there will come a great day of the wrath of God.  Men will hide themselves and ask the rocks and mountains to fall on them and hide them from the wrath of the Lamb.  What are we the justified to do?  Paul says in I Thessalonians 5:9, “...For God hath not appointed us to wrath.” When God begins to rain down the judgment of His wrath upon the earth I will be safe in Christ.  I have always held the Pre-Tribulation position. That we will not go through the tribulation, but will leave in the rapture before it starts. My hope is that the Pre-Trib students have it right.  If they miss it and we have to go through it, I will be safe in the ark of Christ.  I will sail through the sea of wrath and land safely in the haven of rest.

The old mountain preacher was preaching one night on ten reasons why I know I am not going to Hell. The first one caught the crowds attention and overwhelmed them when he said, “I’m not a-headed that way”.  No matter how God chooses for me to go, by the grave or by the rapture or sail through the sea of wrath, I’m headed up to the city on the hills of Mt. Zion in the New Jerusalem.  Amen and Amen!
