A Study of Positional Truths

Let us continue to chisel away in the great mine of Positional Truth called Ephesians.  In chapter 3 and verses 1-13 Paul mentions us as  being In Christ three times. The three times are in verses 6, 11, and 12. ďThat the gentiles should be fellow heirs and of the same body and partakers of His promise in Christ by the gospel. According to the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ our Lord.  In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of Him.Ē In these verses, we His children who are in Him, are adorned with three great truths. We are first of all, part of a mysterious plan. (Vs. 6)   Paul tells us that the mystery in ages past was not known by the prophets but has been revealed to him. (3:3-5) What is this great mysterious plan? That the gentiles would be fellow heirs with the Jews. The word fellow heirs means to enter into the same lot with. I feel assured that this alarmed the Jews. We Gentiles are not made a part of the Jewish body, but we both are made a part of Christí body. The great mystery is that we lose our Jewish and Gentile identity in Him.

We all are partakers of the promise. The word promise is a legal term which denotes the undertaking of, or graciously bestowing what has been assured.  Through the good news of the gospel Jesus makes all that believe a part of Him.  Red and yellow, black and white, they are all precious in His sight.  How can this be? We are In Him. Everything is equal at the foot of Calvary where we learned of our position In Him. This position was obtained through His faith. (3:12b) You did not make the cross effective in your life by faith. The cross became effective in your life by purchasing your faith.

The next great truth that we are adorned with is a majestic purpose.  The mystery of being one In Him was accomplished by His eternal purpose. (3:11) The eternal purpose means to set forth or determine beforehand as an intended proposal. Long before there was anything in this world, a sun, moon, or stars to gaze upon.  Before the heavenly angelic choir sung, Holy, Holy, Holy, He determined to place us In Him both Jew and Gentile alike as one. Then He purposed it in Christ Jesus our Lord.  The word purposed means to make or cause to happen. That which He purposed to do before time, to make us a part of Him, He made or caused to happen in time.  Our God leaves nothing to chance or the possibility of manís depraved will of choice. The natural man will not receive the things of God.

We have entered into His mysterious plan because of His majestic purpose. This puts us in line to be adorned with the third truth of a marvelous priesthood. He tells us in verse 12 because of being In Him we have boldness of access with confidence. The word boldness means outspokenness, to be frank or blunt. Access means a continual audience or summons to draw near. Confidence means a relying trust. Oh, to think that we can come into His presence at any time. We can speak what is on our hearts with the confidence that He hears and answers prayer.

I thank you Lord for purposing to let me in on your mysterious secret of being one in the beloved.  Come boldly to Him. He gives rest. Cast all your cares upon Him, for He careth for you. He receives the children of His mysterious, majestic, and marvelous work with open arms.
