A Study of Positional Truths

The great positional truth that the Lord has led us to this week is in Ephesians 2:13 that says, “But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.”

The phrase, far off, opens a vast area of thought in our hearts. Just how far off were we?  Many today think they are not too bad. They think that God got us from different levels in the barrel.  The top of the barrel was the good people, in the middle the not half bad folks, and at the bottom the real bad. The truth is, He got us all off the bottom and even then He had to dig around to find us. In verses 11 and 12 He describes for us how far off we had sunk. In these verses we have six characteristics to describe our sunken condition.

In verse 11 Paul says, we were Gentiles in the flesh’.  This is not a compliment. The word Gentile compares to us to dogs and the offscouring of the earth. Let me not offend any dog lovers. Dogs are not the cleanest animals. You can have all my doggie sugar. He refers to us as the uncircumcised. This was a religious rite done to the outward person. In our sunken condition the best we can do is morality and align with religious dos and don’ts. Romans 2:29 says, “But He is a Jew which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart.” I am glad, In Christ, my heart has been circumcised. The flesh has been cut away by the indwelling spirit of God. The next characteristic of the sunken was that we were without Christ. Christ is the word Messiah. The one who shall come for His people. In our prior state of lostness there was none coming to take us to heaven. The next description is that we were aliens and strangers. The words describe one who is a foreigner. In Christ, my citizenship is now in heaven. I am in the world, but not of the world. This world is not my home. I am just passing through. The last words of description say that we have no hope and were without God. One who is not In Christ has no true God and lives in hopelessness.  I now have Christ in me and He is my hope of glory.

I’m now In Christ and I’m no longer afar off.  The blood of Christ has brought me near.

What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought since Jesus came into my heart. When asked, “What can wash away my sin?” “What can make me whole again?” I can say with the songwriter, “Nothing but the blood of Jesus.” I have been to the fountain filled with Emmanuel’s blood.  I have been plunged beneath that flood and I lost all my guilty stains. I was not redeemed with silver, nor was I bought with gold. I was bought with the price of the blood of Jesus. I can say, “There is power, power, wonder working power, in the blood of the Lamb.” I have been freed from my passions and pride by the power of His blood. I can daily live His praises to sing all because of the blood of the Lamb. Glory I’m saved, my sins are all pardoned. My guilt is all gone; I have been saved by the blood of the crucified one.

Thank you Lord for your blood that brought me nigh and placed me in Christ Jesus.
